This is our time of year when it comes to the Heating as well as A/C

It’s so good not to dread this time of year any longer, however when all of us lived up north, at least Christmas was a bit of a distraction from all the cold, but once all of us passed the holiday season, the snow, ice in addition to brutally low hot in addition to cold temperatures could not be ignored, but thankfully, the lake house all of us lived in had actually good Heating as well as A/C equipment.

The gas furnace did a good task all the way up until all of us actually decided to move, so all of us replaced the gas furnace prior to putting the lake house on the market, then all of us were able to put our lake house on the market because I was offered early retirement.

The supplier decided that it needed to downsize in addition to split salaries. That meant I was in line to cash in on our retirement plan with legitimately little penalty. But it still wasn’t simple leaving the zone controlled Heating as well as A/C of that office, i had spent all of our career inside that commercial Heating as well as A/C. But it was really worth it given the fact that I was gifted nearly a decade of extra retirement… Once all of us sold the house, all of us set out for the south where there would be no need for a gas furnace. I can do separate from a pale white Christmas in addition to all that stuff. I can do separate from all of that because I so prefer the fact that Winter comes with appealing weather down here. While all of us may get a cold snap here in addition to there, the heat pump pretty much stays dormant through the winter. But of course, the other side of that coin is the fact that all of us need cooling system for up to 8 weeks a year. Still, I hadrather deal with the heat of Summer than the deep cold of a northern winter.

A super cold conference center

I recently went on a business trip that took me to a very nice and fancy hotel.

The business trip mostly revolved around a conference, and me and my colleagues were in attendance.

There were very interesting talks and seminars, and overall, I had a pretty great time and was still getting paid all the while! Not to mention the generous stipend we were given for meals! It would have been a perfect experience were it not for one simple thing. While I was grateful to get a hotel room with a colleague that had very similar ideas as to what temperature on the thermostat was comfortable, most of the conference rooms and the whole area in which the conference was being held blasted the air conditioner with reckless abandon! I actually like cooler temperatures. We set the thermostat to 69° back in the hotel room. However, the area the conference took place in seemed like it was set to something like 59°! Any time there was a break between meetings or it was time to grab a bite to eat from one of the local vendors, I almost always sat outside in the sun while having my meal. When it’s a great relief to get the warmth of the sun instead of staying inside under the air conditioner in such a hot region of the country, you can be sure that the air conditioner is being abused. I guess the people who own the building just think that when they’re hosting conferences they need to blast the A/C!

My car's A/C gives out on me coming back from a business trip

My car’s air conditioner recently gave out on me as I was driving home from a business trip.

This business trip took me 600 miles away and across three states.

I started back early in the morning, but ran into traffic quite often on my way home. Then, with about 250 miles to go, my air conditioning system just petered out completely. I looked at the temperature on my dashboard, and it was 97° outside! The humidity was intense as well. I was looking for up to 4 hours or more left in my trip, with no air conditioner. How on earth was I going to survive! I tried opening the windows, but the wind blasting on the highway and the fact that the air was hot and heavy with moisture just did not help at all! I decided to compromise and leave them half open. I was baking on that highway for what felt like twice as long as 4 hours. Still, I tried to speed through it. When I tell you that I’ve never felt more appreciative for my air conditioning system once I finally pulled into my own driveway and opened my front door, I really mean it! I was dripping with sweat, and I collapsed on the couch letting the cool air wash over me. I must have fallen asleep within a few minutes, and I woke up about an hour and a half later feeling quite refreshed! What a wonder good air conditioning is!

My favorite part about winter time

I absolutely love winter around here.

  • It’s not just the holiday season and all the festivities and time off from work and gift-giving, although I love all of those things very much so, especially as a high school teacher that gets over two weeks off for Christmas vacation.

Yes, teachers work very hard and have to put up with kids all day long, but you have to admit, that’s a pretty good deal, and don’t even get me started about 2 months off in the summer! Anyway, I love winter here because of the holidays and also because I love the cold! I have a heater in my house, but I might as well not have a heater! Well, that isn’t entirely true. I set it to about 65°. Our winters are mild, so it is easy for my heating system to maintain that temperature. On Monday nights it doesn’t even bother kicking in, because it doesn’t have to. I know there are people that would bark at the idea of keeping their thermostat as low as 65°, but that’s why I love winters so much! I barely have to expend any energy on my heating system to maintain what I consider to be an extremely comfortable temperature! Summers, on the other hand, are very hot around here. I’d have to be mad to try and keep my thermostat at 65° all the time in the summer. My air conditioning system would give out very quickly. So you see, in the winter, I pay practically nothing for heating and feel very cool and comfortable indeed!

Neglecting the heater until trouble happens

It has been an extremely busy two months for me.

It’s peak season at work.

I’m a customer service representative for a tax filing company. People have been calling in for all sorts of problems and I have been on the phone from the beginning of my shift all the way to the end just about every day. In between having such a busy schedule at work and taking care of my two kids and their sports team events, I have to admit that there were a couple things that I let go this week that I should have taken care of. It’s very cold outside and the heating system has shown signs of acting up. Because I’ve been so busy, I simply turned the thermostat down so that the heat would not have to work so hard. However, just last night I was awoken by a strange and loud noise coming from the air ducts, at which point the heat seemed to stop working all together. I panicked! It was 17° that night, and humidity was high, which only made things even more miserable. I immediately called in the HVAC technician the following morning because there was no way that we were going to be able to make it through without getting the heat fixed. I guess I’m just going to have to get back into the habit of using a daily planner to make sure that I’ve got all my bases covered to prevent emergencies like this. My household definitely cannot go without heat this winter season, that’s for sure!
