Mercy was in for a surprise when she went to work early one morning.
She heard rumors that they were getting a new boss, but she had no idea who it was.
The company president called all the top executives to a meeting to introduce the new general manager of the company. Mercy was so surprised to see that it was her old high school boyfriend. She hadn’t seen him since that night he broke up with her graduation. He was going away for college and wanted his freedom. At least, that is what Mercy heard from his long explanation. He noticed her immediately, and she walked into the room and smiled. They got a chance to catch up after the meeting. He apologized again and asked her for a drink later. They went to a bar near work and had such a wonderful time catching up now that they were both adults. It was about 11 at night when Mercy got home and realized her air conditioning wasn’t working. It seemed there was an issue because she recalled checking the thermostat before leaving the house that morning. She always preferred leaving the air conditioning on to keep her home cool and comfortable in summer. Since it was late, Mercy went to sleep after turning on a small portable cooling unit in her bedroom. Early the next morning, she called an HVAC company nearby to book an appointment for HVAC repair since she had no clue why the air conditioner wasn’t working. She knew they’d send over an AC mechanic to come to evaluate and fix the issue, but she had to be a little late to work for that to happen. Instead, she called in and said she’d be working from home.
