I had been working at the HVAC company for almost ten years when I noticed I was having stiffness and pain in my hands. I went to the doctor, and he told me I had the beginning of carpal tunnel from working on the computer so much. Repetitive movements on the computer was the main source of carpal tunnel syndrome. I went to work the next day and told the owner of the HVAC company that I was going to sue him for worker’s compensation. He laughed and didn’t think I was serious. I told him that every time I wrote a work order, or put notes into the computer, I was agitating the carpal tunnel and could end up having surgery. He still thought I was kidding and told me to rub some cream into my hands and go back to work. I was a little upset that he wasn’t taking me seriously. I was his oldest employee at the HVAC company and I never made fun of him, or I didn’t make fun of him very often. Along with being his employee, I was also his wife. He said I couldn’t sue him for worker’s comp since I was his wife. I was getting angrier by the minute because he still didn’t think I had a carpal tunnel.
