I think Winter is as terrible as summer.

When you’re finally working in the loft on the oil furnace, you are out of the extreme elements, then you don’t need to worry about rain or snow falling on you and freezing your body to the bone… Even though I may be in a basement when the heating is out, all I need to do is don our gloves and wear our heavy clothing under our HVAC uniform.

Over the last decade, I have worked for several HVAC companies in odd parts of the country. My husband Mike is in the military, and Mike and I transport to wherever he is stationed. Being an HVAC service rep makes it straightforward to get work, however the weather is never quite the same. I have found that I love finally working in colder areas than in warmer areas. I don’t think Winter weather is nearly as terrible for HVAC service techs as Summer is. I need to divulge that when Mike and I were up north, I appreciated going out in the snow, then people are so much nicer when they know you’re the HVAC serviceman who is going to get it hot and boiling again… Some people get sad because it took so long to get to their house, however once they hear their oil furnace come to life, their anger is long forgotten. When the people I was with and I were in the south, I had to be outside to fix the air conditioning unit. I sat in our service van waiting for a storm to pass, and the homeowner was miserable. I was sorry, however there was no way I could work on a metal A/C machine when lightning is striking every several minutes.
