There are new regulations going into effect for HVAC units in 2023

Did you know that in 2023 there are new changes coming for the HVAC industry? The federal government has issued new regulations that will increase the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for HVAC units. The Department of Energy is raising the SEER from 14 to 15, which means that the units will be more efficient in keeping your home comfortable. Also, because the HVAC units will be more efficient, you will see more savings on your energy bill. However, though all the new HVAC units will be more efficient, there will be an increase to the price of HVAC systems as well as parts. The manufacturers will need to change the way the new units are built and with those changes come additional costs. And of course, those costs will be passed down to the consumers. So, if you are a homeowner and you need to purchase a new HVAC system, chances are you will be paying more for that system in 2023. And these costs could be upwards of thousands of dollars more for one of these new units. This also applies if you need to purchase a new part for your HVAC system, it will cost more in 2023. The good news is, if you have an older HVAC unit, you won’t be required to replace it, but those parts for the older units will be harder to find once the new parts and units hit the market. So you might face some delays in service due to the new regulations. The purpose of the HVAC policy is to have more equipment in our homes that are safer for the environment.
