I don’t know how it got there, or even if it was there when we moved in. All I know is that when the HVAC technician arrived to work on the air conditioning unit, we were both horrified at what he found. We were so scared that both of us laughed until we were holding our sides. He said he had never seen the carcass of a dead rat before, and finding one inside the air conditioning unit was so horrible that he screamed. He apologized and said he had never screamed like that before. I had never screamed like that before, either. Neither of us expected to see a dead rat, in or around the air conditioning unit, but he had to find out where it came from. I worried that some of the noise we heard in the ductwork was rats running inside it. I couldn’t figure out how the rats could get in there.
