Moving into a new area has always been a difficult thing for me.
I don’t get along well people, because I am very shy.
I was considering talking to one of my neighbors to see where was the best place to shop, and who do I call for HVAC service. It seemed like whenever I stopped in front of a house where there were people outside, they would get up and go inside. I was in tears one afternoon, because my HVAC system wasn’t working. I wasn’t who I could call to get the HVAC system inspected, and I still hadn’t talked to anyone in the neighborhood. I worked from home, since I was a writer, so there was no one to interface with. I called my sister and told her I was lonely and still hadn’t met anyone in the neighborhood. Four hours later, my sister was knocking on my door. She drove three hundred miles to come and save me. She took me outside and we walked up and down the sidewalk. She smiled a couple of people and stopped to talk to them. The one man smiled and said it was nice to meet us. She told him I had lived there two months, and it surprised him. The next day, I had several people stopping by to welcome me into the neighborhood. One woman told me that if I needed a good HVAC technician, her son worked for the local HVAC company. She brought one of his business cards with her. My sister spent three days with me and read over my newest manuscript. She said it was my best work yet, and told me it was time for her to go home.
