We start to smell

They smile politely as if they intend to comply

Benjamin Franklin was known for many things, not the least of which was his many wise sayings. “Nothing in this life is particular except death in addition to taxes,” is one. “Guests, like fish, begin to aroma in three afternoons,” is another. I can entirely attest to both of these! We have dear friends who stay with us every year, travelling from another state, and we have found that my good friend and I love their company for about the first three afternoons, then but anything longer in addition to my good friend and I begin to wish they would just go home. If they come during the winter time months, my good friend and I find that they like to keep their home office in addition to washroom windows open at all times. And if it’s during the warmer months, they do the same, but either way, it makes our heating in addition to cooling bills sky high during their stay. We have politely asked that they keep the windows closed, explaining that the heater never stops running in the winter time in addition to the a/c never shuts off in the summer. They smile politely as if they intend to comply. But the next afternoon it’s more of the same, our Heating, Ventilation and A/C dealer, during one of his annual service appointments, confirmed that windows should typically be shut once the Heating, Ventilation and A/C system is on, not only does it interfere with the heating or the cooling of the house, it also puts stress on the entire Heating, Ventilation and A/C system. Eventually the extra stress could lead to a malfunction of the heater or the a/c, however sadly, my good friend and I feel that my good friend and I cannot keep bringing the subject up with our out of neighborhood guests. We have chosen stress on our Heating, Ventilation and A/C system over stress on our friendship.
