There are particular times in life where a person, or in our case a couple, just have to hit the reset button.

I realized that this was happening about the same time my fiance did! My pal and I were just crawling into bed after I set the control component for the night. My pal and I like to sleep a bit cooler inside the central air conditioning of our home. The kids were finally down plus our chores done for the night. But it was just Friday plus the weekend felt such a long way away… Plus, my buddy and I had another round of toting the kids all over for the weekend on tap which isn’t exactly relaxing. It’s better than being stuck inside the commercial heating as well as air conditioning of the office but not by much. It was that Friday night earlier in the Springtime when it was apparent that my buddy and I were in need of that reset button. It also took a couple of weeks to put everything together to make a four afternoon weekend happen for just the two of us. The Grandparents are always game to have the kids plus our kids love staying with them. They definitely have a pool plus our kids just can’t get enough of that, and just leaving on a Friday day for our trip was a thrill. There was no need for heating plus cooling as the weather was perfect. My favorite pal and I rolled down the windows plus opened the sunroof to prefer our ride. The room at the cool spa my buddy and I stayed in was also quite comfortable thanks to a ductless heat pump. This was my first experience with this heating as well as air conditioning unit, then and I have to say that it has those big wall units beat. Our stay was magical plus I have to say that the quality heating plus air my buddy and I also enjoyed from the ductless heat pump was the best ever.

• But this Spring’s trip was definitely one of the best I’ve ever gotten to experience with that wonderful man.

His health has been such that he wasn’t able to get up to the lake for the last couple of years. But due to his amazing resilience, he’s doing much better and is living every moment to its fullest. I love that about him. He’s never been one to just sit in the air conditioning at home. Dad actually helped his dad build the cabin up at the lake. It’s sort of been passed down to me now as I hold the keys. Dad didn’t make a big deal out of that passing of the torch. But his look said everything really. The cabin is rustic and that’s always been fine. I’m not up there to watch TV or anything like that. Yet, since dad wasn’t up to going to the cabin the last couple of years, I’ve been doing some renovating. Between me and my buddies, we have painted, refurbished and added some residential HVAC to the cabin. One of my buddies is an HVAC professional. We got a pair of ductless heat pumps and spent a long weekend fishing, drinking beer and installing the ductless heat pumps. It really has made a difference. When dad walked in the cabin, his eyes just lit up. He was so into all the improvements that I had made. He actually thanked me for not waiting until he was dead before putting in some quality heating and air in the cabin. We had yet another great fishing trip together and this one was extra special for a lot of reasons.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here 27 years. The fact that we are replacing the HVAC equipment is a big reminder though. Honestly, we weren’t sure that we’d even get 20 years out of that HVAC equipment. When we bought this place, the previous owner cut every corner he could when it came to the necessary improvements. While the HVAC equipment wasn’t garbage, it was definitely a long way from top of the line. Yet, we loved this house so much that we weren’t willing to let less than awesome HVAC equipment be a deal breaker. So like with all the stuff that we own, we began with preventive maintenance. Whether it’s a car, the roof, the yard or whatever we’ve invested serious money in, we believe in consistent, planned maintenance. That’s certainly the case when it comes to HVAC maintenance. Even with the HVAC equipment that came with the house, we had the HVAC professionals out twice a year for seasonal HVAC maintenance. And shockingly, that paid off big time with the HVAC unit. I can’t believe we got nearly 30 years out of that sort of residential HVAC. But it just goes to show that HVAC maintenance is an investment in the efficiency, viability and longevity of heating and cooling equipment. The new HVAC unit is just awesome and everything that we could have asked for. And of course, we’ll keep getting heating maintenance in the Fall and then an air conditioning tune up before Summer.

I sure didn’t think that I would ever be a good candidate for working remotely. The company I work for actually made a big push for those with similar jobs as mine to take incentives to work from home. This was well before the pandemic shut down the zone controlled HVAC and sent everyone home to work in their own air conditioning. When I was asked if I wanted to go to work at home, it didn’t take me a second to say no. I liked working inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office. And besides, I was far too social a person to actually work at home alone. Well, that’s not exactly right as I have a pair of highschool kids still at home. But they are in school or working or dating or whatever most of the time so it’s not like they would be a distraction. So I guess I should be shocked to still be working from home when most of my colleagues are right back to work. Apparently, I did like the best work of my career while I was at home and the bosses took notice. So when I came back to work with everyone else, I wasn’t at my desk an hour before I was called into the boss’s office. And again, I was offered all sorts of incentives to trade the commercial HVAC of the office for the central air conditioning of my home. And this time, I said yes. It was hard not to with the incentives and the bonus structure that were put in front of me. The first thing I did was to have the HVAC company come out to install a ductless heat pump in my home office. I love having my own quality heating and air in my office.

We actually experienced what it was like being inside a home with a whole home air purification system. For years, my wife and I have been searching for a way to really improve the indoor air quality of our home. We have dealt with indoor air odors that have been a constant source of consternation. And having a house that stinks isn’t great when you want to have people over to the central air conditioning of your home. Seriously, we just quit having social events at our house. Explaining the odors to visiting family was tough enough. And we tried just everything we could think to try when it came to covering up the odors. There were products that were more promising than others for sure. But there was never a solution before we finally turned to the HVAC company for help. That’s when they explained that we were never getting rid of the stink until we got rid of the bacteria in the air causing the stink. And the only way to do that the way we needed it done was air purification. That’s when we learned that some of our friends had the whole home air purification system. We called them up to see if we could come check it out. Well, it took no more than that one visit to realize that we finally had our odor and allergy solution in the whole home air purification system. It works inside the HVAC unit so we don’t have to move this air purifier around or clean any sort of filter. Using UV light, this air purifier literally fries the DNA of all indoor air contaminants.
