So I was one hundred percent wrong thinking that going with an ancient gas heater would be no problem, then but then again, I actually had no idea what I was about to discover when it came to experiencing a northern Winter, this was my first and unluckyly, it won’t be my last! For sure, I have at least four more Winters to deal with given my commitment to the position I accepted up here. The bosses were unquestionably upfront about the fact that they wanted a minimum of a five year commitment, i was all in after visiting these office up here with the zone controlled HVAC, and of course, I was visiting those beautifully air conditioned offices while in November, but so five years seemed like no large deal for what could be a work making move. But after this first Winter, I’m doing good not to be running home to the south, and wow, I’ve never been more cold and miserable than I was this past Winter. It’s now almost mid May and I’m just now thawing out. When I moved up here, I had to get a locale pretty quick, but a nice two family room locale became available and I was all in. The HVAC unit was the one thing that actually needed and update although I wasn’t all that nervous. Well, I learned that the most crucial thing in a home up here is the heating method. I’m in the process of having the entire central air conditioner of my home replaced. Along with that HVAC update comes a new gas heater that should be simply amazing come next Winter. I’m also going to be sure that I prepare my home for winter season in order to stop those drafts that rob HVAC efficiency and made me miserable.

The complication was fixed for many months, until I used my bedroom faucet and found that the water was black

Last summer, when I used the bedroom faucet, I was surprised that the water was scalding hot, and i didn’t need to wait for it to hot up like usual. The temperature was right away dangerously hot. I am entirely thankful one of the kids didn’t get burned. I opened the door to the basement to check on the water pump and water boiler and heard the spray of water… Once I descended the stairs, I found the basement flooded due to a ruptured tepid water heater. I found the shut-off and was able to stop the flow of water. It’s entirely lucky that I caught the complication when I did. The water boiler could have certainly caused a fire. I called a local plumbing company and asked them to send a professional serviceman to the house as soon as possible. My friend and I went for many hours with no water. My friend and I couldn’t run any of the sinks, flush toilets, take a shower or beginning up the washing machine. The plumber checked out the situation and informed me that a new water boiler was necessary; He was able to get a new tank-style boiler installed quite hastily. The complication was fixed for many months, until I used my bedroom faucet and found that the water was black. I called the same plumbing company and explained the problem. I learned that due to the hardness of our water, the anode rod was overwhelmed with minerals and actually worked as a detriment to water quality, removing the anode rod solved the problem but also voided the warranty of the new water heater.

Although I know technology is always growing in every field, sometimes you don’t really notice the difference until you are directly affected by it. I had figured that heating and air conditioning technology was obviously way better than when I was a kid, but I didn’t realize how much better it actually was. The last time I had HVAC installation was close to 20 years ago, and so it is easy to see how much heating and air conditioning technology could have changed within that time. But after a good long while, the central heating and cooling device that I have had with me forever finally broke down for good. I knew this was going to happen, and so I was prepared to buy a new heating and A/C machine. I contacted the A/C technician, and I already knew what new cooling device I wanted, so the entire HVAC installation process was pretty quick. The A/C technician installed my new cooling component, and to my delight, also installed a smart thermostat for me. I didn’t realize at the time they were having a special install of installing a new smart thermostat for every A/C installation. What a wonderful surprise, now I had new climate control and a smart thermostat. The high efficiency of the new A/C component was amazing, and I was impressed with how it could cool my home within minutes. My old machine, even when it was new, took at least 30 minutes to cool the home. It was only with my new air conditioner that I realized how far A/C technology has come.

When my wife announced she bought an electric fireplace, I wasn’t very happy.

I have never cared for fireplaces, I know they make a great heating method for some, but it is just not for me.

I thought that my wife felt the same, but I guess I was wrong. She saw a great potential heating device and something pretty to look at, all I saw was a waste of money. But regardless, she bought it with her own money, so I guess I couldn’t complain. It took close to a week before she had time to set the heating system up, but when she did, she marveled at how great it was. The fireplace was a big ole meh from me. It actually wasn’t until having it a few weeks that I began to realize that it is actually pretty nice. The reason being that our gas furnace isn’t always the best at working, and sometimes it will quit randomly during the winter. Usually turning it off and then turning it back on is enough to get it to start working again. But other times we have to call out a heating and air conditioning serviceman to help fix whatever the problem is. Well, we had that again a couple of days ago, and surprisingly the fireplace kept us warm the entire time. While not as efficient as the gas heater, the fireplace kept us warm enough to where you almost couldn’t notice the difference. The fireplace kept us warm until a HVAC specialist could come out to repair our main heating device.
