I got my firstborn while my partner and I were both in college, and we left our son with my parents.

We just needed to cover one thing in that house to help with indoor comfort, install an air purification system.

While dad had invested in a quality HVAC unit, the house was old, and now and then, we’d experience air quality issues. While routine HVAC maintenance constantly improved the situation, we needed to do something more because there’d be an infant in the house. We called the local HVAC company, which sent their HVAC technician to assess the home and recommend the best way forward. The inspection included the ductwork, which needed some duct cleaning before any other work was done. The local contractor did a fast track with the required permits for us to integrate one of the best air quality systems in the industry that was available at our local HVAC company. Within a month, the HVAC professional had installed everything, including a HEPA air filter which we were assured would improve the efficiency of the entire system. After years of staying with the same HVAC system and routine services, everyone suddenly wanted the old house to get an upgrade because a child was coming. I would have been paranoid about my baby’s respiratory health if we hadn’t done anything about the house. Still, with the upgrade, I felt confident enough to keep schooling without worrying about the little things. It was also a benefit for my parents, who are getting more vulnerable as they age, so it was for everyone. One thing we made sure to do since we wouldn’t be home a lot, we enlist HVAC home service from the heating company to help my parents with the monthly maintenance.

We are both the sort who like to find solutions to challenges.

And we’re not afraid to get our hands dirty doing it. This might have something to do with just how well we perform inside the zone controlled HVAC of our respective work spaces. However, that determination and tenacity can sometimes end up biting a person in the butt. This is exactly what happened when we initially listed our home. The realtor we chose had a veritable list of things that needed to be done to our home to get it market ready. However, many of those items required some pretty serious cash outlay that my wife and I did not find appealing. It kind of felt like if we were going to do all this stuff for our house then why wouldn’t we want to just stay in it. It just didn’t make sense to us to do things like replace the HVAC equipment and completely re-landscape our yard to sell the house. So against our realtor’s wishes, we put the house on the market anyway. And it did nothing but sit there. The few prospective buyers that did come to look at the house pretty much turned around and walked out. Apparently, most home buyers these days are looking for a turn key situation. Once this was clear, we knew we had made an error and went back to our realtor’s upgrade list. We called the HVAC company and scheduled an appointment with the HVAC contractor. After that, we had the latest in residential HVAC and the most HVAC technology we could get our hands on installed. The house sold 3 weeks later for our asking price.

It’s always with a bit of a heavy heart that I watch the calendar flip over to March. This means that our perfect winter weather will come to a close sooner rather than later. While I love spring and rebirth, it makes me sad though that winter is waning. Soon, the heat pumps will be sounding off again as the need for air conditioning is on its way. Thankfully though, we have the sort of residential HVAC in this part of the country that is a master of cooling. I’m talking of course about the heat pump and its ability to provide the cooling comfort that we all need living this far south. By the time we get to June, the air conditioning will be running night and day just so we can deal with the overwhelming heat and humidity. I find it pretty cool that the heat pump can extract heat energy from the house and then exhausted it outside. This makes room for more cooling air and provides the comfort we seek when the temperatures get warm. What really amazes me about the heat pump is how it heats my home in the winter. Granted, it doesn’t take much heating when you live where I do. Yet, there are several times during the winter where the heat pump comes on. What is so fascinating about the heat pump is that it actually just reverses the air conditioning process for heating. Instead of exhausting heat energy outside, it extracts heat energy from ambient outdoor air and brings it inside. Where I live, it never really needs any sort of supplemental help either. That just blows my mind. Again, I hate to see the winter go because I love having a quiet heat pump.

I met a young woman a couple of weeks ago, and I was sure she was the right one for me.

• I took her out the night I met her and we laughed all night long.

I didn’t even kiss her, we were so busy talking and laughing. The next night we were going to go to a movie, but we ended up sitting in her apartment eating cold pizza and drinking warm coke because she didn’t feel like cooking.She told me she was going to college to be a teacher, and I told her I was an HVAC technician. She laughed and told me that was funny because her dad owned an HVAC company. We talked some more, but the conversation never came back to who her father was. When I asked if she wanted to go out that weekend, she said she was going away for the weekend with her parents. They wanted her to go along and visit her grandmother. Since she hadn’t seen her grandma for almost a year, she was anxious to go. The next day I was sitting in the HVAC company going over a couple of service calls I had made. I had a long list of things I needed to do before I could leave for the day. I saw my perfect match come into the office. It suddenly hit that she didn’t know which HVAC company I worked for. I knew I was going to get fired when my boss found out I was dating his daughter. Instead, he came over with her when she recognized me. He didn’t say a word when she kissed me goodbye and said she would see me Sunday.

Luke told us they were talking about marriage

My son came home from college last week and told me he was considering switching to the local college. He met a local girl and he wanted to get to know her better. She was there visiting her little sister and they had hit it off. I asked him who the local girl was, and he gave a name I didn’t recognize. He said she had lived with her dad for several years, but she was back in town to stay. I talked to my son for quite a while, and promised I would talk to his dad about switching colleges. We hadn’t yet paid for this semester, and I didn’t think it would be a big deal changing. In the meantime, he said he was going over to see Sarah and he would be back in a couple of hours. When he got home, he brought Sarah with him. My son was almost twenty-one and he was now a man, but I wanted to warn him off quickly. My husband asked if she was in school, and she told him she worked. She was one of the local HVAC technicians. She had met Luke when she visited her sister at the college. Luke looked at her and she shook her head yes. Luke told us they were talking about marriage. They didn’t want kids right away because she wanted to work at the HVAC company for a while longer, and then take over ownership before they got married. I took a deep breath, but that gold digger was taking my son away.
