The HVAC tech had a fear of lizards

I called the HVAC technician so he could check out our furnace and close it down for summer. Most people had their furnace checked before winter, but we added an extra measure of safety. We wanted to make sure the furnace was okay after a long hard winter. When the HVAC technician got to the basement, we thought it would be a simple task of shutting it down. It wasn’t until we heard him scream that we knew there was a serious problem. My husband told me to call an ambulance and he ran downstairs. The HVAC technician was laying on the floor, and he was bleeding from his head. He was still concious, but my husband worried he had a heart attack or something, from the way he screamed. When the man opened his eyes and looked around, my husband told him to stay still, and an ambulance would be here soon. He had called the HVAC company and the owner showed up about the same time as the ambulance. The owner went into the basement and was talking to the HVAC technician when the ambulance showed up. I worried something had happened to him when working on the furnace, and I wasn’t far off. The HVAC tech had a fear of lizards. A small lizard ran over his hand. He screamed and fell, hitting his head on the ductwork, and he passed out from fear and the head injury. The owner of the HVAC company could barely control his laughter when he showed up the 3-inch lizard that caused the accident.

When he came back to us, he told me he was done looking

My husband were house hunting, and the first thing he asked when we walked into a house was, if the realtor could tell him anything about the HVAC system. Most of the time, the realtor had a packet of information for us, and it gave information on everything from the appliances to the HVAC system, to the sewer. We were in one house that looked to be in a state of disrepair. We thought it could be the perfect house for us to purchase as a fixer-upper, if the HVAC system was in good shape. As long as we had a working HVAC system for the first five years, we would be happy. There was no information packet, and the realtor knew nothing about the house. She called the realtor that listed the house, and she said it was a phone in listing. The people lived out of state, and gave her all the information over the phone. My husband asked if he could look around the house on his own. He went into the attic, the basement, and the garage. He couldn’t find even a hint of HVAC. When he came back to us, he told me he was done looking. It looked to him, like the owners had taken everything out of the house, except the wiring, and some of that had been stripped from the house. He said he was done looking and we would resume looking when winter was over. The realtor must have done her own investigation, because she called the next day and apologized for taking us to the house.

When I called the HvAC company to have my furnace inspected, the first thing they asked was if I had animals in the house.

I told them I had two snake, a dog, and three cats.

They told me that all animals had to be secured before the HVAC technician would come into the house. I thought this was kind of odd. I understand the dog and the snakes, but how much harm can a little cat do? When the HVAC technician arrived, he asked if I had animals? I told him the dog was in his kennel, and the snakes were in their cages. He said it was noted that I had three cats. I tried to tell him the cats had never come near anyone, and I saw no reason to crate them. He showed me some scars he had on his arms. He told me that was exactly what the last customer told him. The cats came at him with claws and teeth when they saw him in the garage. Just like dogs, cats were territorial. They didn’t know him and instantly began to attack. He wasn’t fond of cats, and maybe they sensed it, but he wouldn’t go into a house that had any animals that weren’t caged. I rolled my eyes and tried to round up my cat. It took an hour to find two, and by that time, the HVAC technician was calling the office. He told them I hadn’t gathered up the cats and wanted them to tell him what to do. He said someone else would be at the house the next day, and I was going to be charged for a second service call. I was so angry that I called another HVAC company, but they said the same thing.

I had just gotten my HVAC certification and was working in the local HVAC company. I had worked with three different HVAC technicians, and this last one was to be my mentor for the rest of the month. We got to this house that needed a new furnace, and I was to follow along. When we got into the basement to make sure the last HVAC technician’s diagnosis was correct, he told me to do the inspection. I reminded him the owners had already been told they needed a new furnace, and shouldn’t we be measuring up for the new furnace. The HVAC technician gave me an odd look and told me to go home. I was taken aback and opened my eyes and stared at him. He went back to his inspection and acted like I wasn’t there. He turned and asked why I was still in the house? He had told me to go home. I asked him what I had done wrong. He asked me if my parents owned their home, and I said yes. He pointed at the furnace and told me to imagine this was in my parent’s house. How would I feel if an HVAC technician told them their furnace needed replaced, and all it needed was a simple repair? How would I feel knowing no one had rechecked the furnace and my parents paid thousand of dollars for a new furnace? I looked at him and said I would be angry. He said that was why we were inspecting the furnace to make sure it really was necessary to have a new furnace installed.

Last year, my husband and I wanted to remodel our home. Since we were practically rebuilding the house, we also wanted to include a new HVAC system. While redoing the main part of the house, my husband wanted to know what kind of HVAC system we want in the house. My husband was talking about a traditional HVAC system, but I was thinking about the mini split ductless HVAC system. I wouldn’t need to worry about placing my furniture where it wouldn’t interfere with the air vents. The curtains could hang on the floor, and there would be no worry about them overheating. My husband said he wanted heating and air conditioning. I told him it had excellent heat and air conditioning. We could wait until they completed the house to have the HVAC system installed. We would order the ductless system we wanted, and it wouldn’t be delivered. He asked where I got all the information. I smiled my sweetest smile and told him I went to the HVAC company website and read all about the different HVAC systems. He gave me a hug and asked me if I knew how efficient it was. I pulled up the HVAC website and let him read all the stats on the mini split ductless HVAC system. It took us nearly an hour to peruse the website, and my husband moved away from the computer. He picked up his phone and called the HVAC company and told them what we wanted for an HVAC system. The HVAC contractor was to come to the house when it was nearly done, and talk to us about how big of a mini split system we needed.
