It’s the last place you want to be in a rainstorm where thunder and lightning are expected.

It wasn’t supposed to rain on Tuesday, which is why I decided to schedule the rooftop AC repair for that day. My commercial customer wanted the work done on Monday, but the forecast was for rain. It poured down rain very hard on monday, so I was glad that I did not drive all the way out to the commercial work site. Tuesday morning when I woke up, I looked at the forecast. The weatherman said it was going to be partly cloudy with zero chance of rain. It looks like there was more of a chance of rain to me than that, but I’m not a weather person. I contacted the commercial customer to let her know that I was on the way to her business. It took about 45 minutes to get to the address which is just on the outside of town. The woman owns a dry cleaning business and there was no AC at all. The system is located on the roof. The roof is old and there is metal up there. It’s the last place you want to be in a rainstorm where thunder and lightning are expected. I had all of my supplies on the roof when the thunder started. The sound of thunder made me get down and off of the roof. I wanted to help the commercial repair customer with the AC problem, but I did not want to get struck by lightning. I told her that we would have to wait again until the weather was clear.

I knew that I was going to be the emergency repair technician on call on Saturday and Sunday, but I still agreed to meet with my friends on Sunday night so we could watch the football game.

I thought we were going to meet at Jack’s house and watch the game there, but the plans were changed at the very last minute. Everyone decided to meet at a bar that is close by that serves buffalo wings. On Sundays when there is a football game, all of the buffalo wings are only 75 cents each. That’s a really great deal for buffalo wings, especially since this place has really great flavors. My buddies ordered around and I decided to have a beer. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with having a single beer. Unfortunately, the waitress brought a second and a third round. When I was on the third round of beers, I got a call for a commercial AC repair about seven or eight blocks away from the bar where I was hanging out. I responded to the dispatch office and said that it would take me approximately 45 minutes. We have a promise of 1 hour arrival times, so I knew I had plenty of time to finish my third beer before I went to the repair. It’s a good thing that it was only seven or eight blocks away, because I probably should not have finished the third beer before I left. I had a little trouble focusing on the road, but zero trouble with the commercial AC repair..

My boss is a pretty good guy.

I’m sure that’s why he has been in business for more than 20 years.

The guy started a heating and AC business in his garage and now the company has more than 50 different employees and three business locations. I was lucky to get a job working for the guy, but he wasn’t impressed with my resume and my ability to handle commercial and residential repairs. I have been with the company for 2 years. My boss always finds a way to say thank you when we go above and beyond what is expected. I had to work on the weekend and I even picked up a Saturday shift that no one else wanted. My boss gave me a bonus in my paycheck that was equal to a whole day of work. It was a huge surprise and totally unexpected. The boss threw a party for everyone in the office too, and it was also completely and totally unexpected. The boss called a local catering company and the company brought food to the heating and AC business and we all got to eat for free. At the end of the luncheon and party, each one of us was issued a bonus check. The order of the company said that the last quarter was the busiest 4 months that the business has ever seen and he wanted to reward everyone for our hard work. Inside of my envelope was a check for $250. I’m not sure what everyone received, but I was happy with my check.

I love going to the shooting range.

It’s one of my favorite pastimes.

I’ve been going to an outdoor range for a long time. It’s one of the only ones that I’ve ever frequented because I know the owner and he’s a nice guy. He’s giving me lots of helpful advice over the years. However, things are starting to change. The customer base is starting to look quite different. I’m seeing old regulars who know what they’re doing start to be replaced by novices that make me feel genuinely nervous. On top of that, it’s the middle of the summer and an indoor range is starting to look really good. We’re in the middle of a heatwave and it’s already super hot in this part of the South. Another one of my friends finally convinced me to go to an indoor range not too far from where I live. I must say that the air conditioner was a very welcome relief! I wasn’t even missing much by going to an indoor range. I was cool and comfortable, and of course setting up targets was automated, so all I had to do was flip a switch to bring the target back instead of walking down range, which I was starting to get nervous about at the outdoor range because of all the newbies. I later talked to the manager of the indoor range and mentioned the cool and relaxing air conditioner. He beamed and said that he used to be an HVAC technician so he knew his stuff!

My first job was working at a dollar store.

I have to say that it was an excellent starting job.

It taught me the importance of hard work, the concept of nepotism, and that it was a good idea to pretend to be a smoker so that you get the extra breaks. I’m only half-joking. Anyway, my hours were all over the place, but I was just grateful I was getting them, because I was saving up to buy a used vehicle. There were two things that never seemed to work in this dollar store. The bathrooms and the air conditioner. Customers complained about both of these. It really wasn’t good for business for the air conditioner to be so faulty. People realized very quickly that it was in their best interest to get in and out of the store as quickly as possible so they bought less things. That’s why it was quite stressful when the lines started building up. People would get more rude and impatient because they were hot and sweating. Then, it definitely didn’t help that we almost constantly had to tell them that the bathrooms were out of order! Many of them thought that we just didn’t want anyone to use them but ourselves. So what was the reason that both the air conditioner and the bathrooms were constantly on the fritz? It was because the dollar store owner insisted that he could fix them on his own and didn’t want to spend money on professional repairs! What a cheapskate!
