HVAC Tips for All

My husband and I have been battling our son about the thermostat settings and it’s been incredibly stressful. Our son begged to make the loft on the second floor his bedroom, and my husband and I continuously told him no. We didn’t have a problem with him using the loft as his bedroom because the space was rarely used anyway, but we knew that he would be uncomfortable. The heat in our home naturally rose up there, which is why we never used the loft space to begin with. During the summer months, our son would suffocate up there and there was nothing we could do about it. He pushed and pushed and we finally told him that he could make the loft his bedroom, but it would be hot. Everything was fine, until he began changing the thermostat settings drastically. He would lower the temperature by 10 degrees sometimes, which not only affected the rest of the house, but it was costing a fortune! No matter what we did, our son would change the thermostat settings and it was increasing our monthly utility bills. When my husband and I realized that our son wasn’t going to give up his bedroom in the loft, we decided to try something new. We didn’t mind him using the space because like I said before, it never got used. Instead of connecting to the central HVAC system, we decided to install a ductless mini split unit. It would run off of electricity and it was only responsible for cooling that area, which made it efficient!

I always hated my desk, the layout, and the air quality, but this year though, I decided that I was planning to make my office environment a more superb space.

I purchased a brand new desk for myself, a new chair, and some different office accessories to make things more enjoyable, and while these things made a difference, I had actually wanted to do something that made an even larger difference. I wanted to change the air quality! The first thing I did was find the building service guy and I told him that I needed the Heating and A/C system tuned and a new air filter that directly impacted my office. I knew sending an e-mail would never work, so I personally found him and asked for the Heating and A/C service. Then, I purchased a small, portable dehumidifier. One of the largest complaints myself and others and my office co-workers have is about the humidity levels. Where we currently reside, the humidity is thick all year round, but it’s especially suffocating while I was in the warm season. I knew that general Heating and A/C service would help, but a dehumidifier would help even more. When I brought the dehumidifier in for the very first time, my coworkers were ecstatic! During that first day of work, the dehumidifier collected a full bucket of water from the air! Both of us knew it was humid there, but we did not recognize that there was that much water around the air.
