Since the price of everything keeps going up, but wages do not, it is increasingly important to be shrewd with a dollar. Bargain shopping and coupon clipping can save hundreds of dollars a year, so why aren’t you doing it? Save fuel by carpooling or riding a bike, cook food at home instead of going out, keep finding new ways to save that money! I spent two years learning about cars just so I could take over the basic maintenance for my vehicle. Another way I save money is by keeping up the service and health of my central HVAC system. Climate control is something most of us take for granted, at least until the bill comes at the end of the month! I used to be resistant to the idea of an annual HVAC service plan, because I felt like it was a scam. My wife sat me down and did the math for me, and demonstrated that a strong, healthy HVAC system would save us a lot of money over the years. Now I see the annual HVAC service plan as an investment in the future, one that actually pays dividends every single month. A healthy, strong HVAC system has to work less, and expend less energy, to heat and cool the house. Spending a couple hundred bucks a year for the service plans gives our HVAC system a longer lifespan, in addition to reducing our monthly utility costs. Since a new HVAC system will cost eight to ten thousand bucks, I try to play it smart and keep my current one in good shape.
The old cabin had a very old heater
Looking back, I should have come up here in the summer.
I chose to book the cabin for the winter months, because I thought it would be easier.
This place is very remote, and relies on a gas powered generator for the modest amount of power it can withstand. In other words, the place is very old, as is the wiring, and it can only handle a few small things, nothing major. I didn’t want to go over the summer, because there is no air conditioning, and I felt that would be a miserable experience. Imagine months worth of 90 degree days with no source of cooling down other than jumping in the lake? During the winter I could use the old furnace in the basement, or the fireplace in the front room, and staying warm would not be an issue. That is what I thought, anyway, but I also was dumb enough to think that it would have a modern, central heating system. This was not the case at all, because the furnace in the cabin was fueled with firewood. There was all the heating I could ever want, as long as I chopped enough wood to keep it burning. I will admit to pitching a fit about the furnace situation at first. Then reality settled in, and I realized that I was in the cabin for a while, so I had no choice but to chop wood to feed the furnace. It was slow going at first, but a few weeks later I can credit that furnace with me losing 15 pounds from all the exercise!
I never knew that being an HVAC tech was a good way to meet women
I have never been a serial dater, I am a relationship type of guy.
My personality type is very anxious in general, so going on first dates is stressful for me.
If I find someone I like, then I want to spend time with them and not have to worry about dates or meeting other people. If I don’t find someone I like, then I just go for a while without dating. The last few months I have been alone, because I was finishing up school and starting a new job. I am surprised, but happy to report that being an HVAC tech seems to be a great way to meet women! My very first day on the job I performed an annual system inspection and an AC tune up for a lovely young woman who gave me her phone number when I left. I talked to my boss, the HVAC contractor, and asked what their company policy was in such a situation. He laughed, and said that there were no ethical stipulations with being an HVAC tech, it wasn’t like doctor-patient privilege. If I met a customer and wanted to date her, the HVAC contractor had no problem with it. I didn’t call the woman right away, mostly because the following day another HVAC customer made a pass at me. I was starting to realize that to hard-working single women, a young, attractive HVAC tech seemed like a pretty good catch. Now I am spoiled for choice when it comes to dating, not to mention I love my job as an HVAC tech!
The sound wasn't the HVAC after all
My wife and I noticed some strange sounds in the bedroom and they appeared to be coming from the ductwork above the bed.
I tried to go into the attic to find the source of the sound.
When the HVAC unit was running, it was hard to determine where the sound was coming from. Since I was pretty sure that the sound was coming from the ductwork, I decided to contact the local repair service. They came to help us on Saturday, when my wife and I were both home at the time. The repairman performed a complete service tune up on the heating and air conditioning system and he also looked for the location of the strange sound. The repairman was in the attic for a while. He had the air conditioning system turned off while he was in the attic. Maybe that was the reason why I could not locate the sound, because I did not turn off the HVAC system while I was in the attic. I thought the noise was coming from the system, so I left it on. The repairman told my wife and I that the sound was not coming from the system and appeared to be a piece of metal connected to one of the ductwork connections. The repairman secured the piece of metal with a screw and encouraged us to keep listening for the sound. He believed it was not going to come back, but told us to listen carefully. The repairman found the source of the noise and he performed a tune up while he was at the house.
The heat wasn’t working the other afternoon at my dentist’s office
The heat wasn’t working officially the other afternoon when I went to get my teeth cleaned at the dentist.
I am 1 of those people who is regularly putting off going to the dentist for 1 reason or another.
I never guess that I actually need to go and get my teeth cleaned unless my mouth is hurting for some reason. By then, it’s usually too late and I end up having to have dental toil done. Procrastination is not a superb thing, however for some reason I regularly put off going to get my teeth looked at. I just actually do not like going to the dentist. Anyway, the other afternoon I l received another superb reason to do not like going to the dentist. The weather outside that afternoon was actually cold, and I had an appointment to get my teeth cleaned. I used my heating plan in my automobile on full blast the whole way there, and I was still actually cold when I got there. I figured that it would be OK once I got inside because I could get cozy in the dentist chair and get my teeth ran tests on. Well, that was not the case at all. Apparently, the oil furnace in the building where the dentist’s office is was broken down that afternoon and it was cold cold inside of his office. It was so cold in there that I cannot guess that they even stayed open! I actually guess love they should have called me to reschedule my appointment because everyone was resting around in their Wintertide coats and it was angry. Honestly, it was difficult for me to get my teeth cleaned because they were chattering because I was shivering so hard. Next time I go to the dentist, I’m gonna call ahead and make sure that their oil furnace is working.
