Re-doing the whole home heating system

The renovation project had taken a toll on us because we did some of the work ourselves

The renovation process had taken longer than we would have liked, but our vision for the house was finally taking shape. We were yet to pick out a design for our gas fireplace. We could not decide between a traditional white design and the river rock design. We were also redoing the whole home heating system. We had gone to the heating corp to consult a professional on the best equipment for our home, and we had ended up choosing a gas furnace. We initially thought that they would also need to redo the entire ductwork. However, the HVAC repairman said that all they had to do was check the HVAC duct for any leaks or any weakness and fix it. Afterward, a duct cleaning would make it as good as new. We planned to use a washable filter for the new boiler installation instead of the old ones that needed replacing every three months. Like the previous heating system, we would need to keep it running smoothly and efficiently with a furnace/heater tune-up twice or once a year. The heating provider had also given us some energy-saving help tips, most of which we were familiar with, but some new ones were also. The renovation project had taken a toll on us because we did some of the work ourselves. A month after the home services company finished installing the heater, our home was finally complete. It felt good to look at the house and see all the work done with nothing but love and a whole lot of sweat. It was finally time to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

A new workforce team in our heating corp

The heating corp was more like a man cave because there was no lady in sight.

We men could easily have our random talks and discussion freely.

It was rather sad that no ladies had come asking for a job. Either they did not fancy working in a home services company, or they found working as an HVAC repairman too much work to take on. it would be nice to have a feminine touch in the office. After a duct cleaning job, I found three ladies seated in the lounge one Friday evening. I said my hellos and headed to my desk. An hour later, the manager of our heating provider business, a senior heating serviceman, came and announced that the three ladies would be joining our team. To say we were shocked would be an understatement. As if that was not enough, they already had an assignment. The boiler installation that we were to work on the following day ended with ladies. The gas furnace installation was in a new home, which meant laying out the extensive ductwork. The only thing left for us to do regards to the next day’s work was one furnace/heater tune-up and delivering a washable filter. We were in no way doubting their capabilities, but it left us with almost no work to do other than servicing whole-home heating systems and sealing an HVAC duct. I was glad for the work relief because now I could work on my gas fireplace at home that I suspected of leaking. I could also install the smart thermostat, an excellent energy-saving help that I had not gotten time to install to my work schedule.

How often do you check the ductwork

The HVAC duct had several leaks, which equates to heat loss.

Living in the countryside has its perks but not so much for specific amenities. Malls, big restaurants, and theme parks were not among the things we had in town, although we still got by. As a result, we had a tightly knit community. Our small village relied on one heating corp to cater for everyone’s home services. With only one heating provider to cater to all the people, having a furnace/heater tune-up was a must. You could not afford to have your gas furnace breaking down in the middle of a cold winter night. A gas fireplace was an added advantage because it could get frigid during winter. Every homeowner had developed or learned an energy-saving help method that worked to keep their energy bills as low as possible. The summers we less cruel than the winters; the air conditioners were barely overworked. By the end of last winter, one look at my energy bill almost sent me to the emergency room. It was typical for the energy bill to increase during winter, but the increase was astronomical that time around. I immediately called the HVAC repairman to come and inspect the boiler installation because I was sure it was the cause of it all. The professional confirmed that the whole home heating equipment was okay and the problem was actually in the ductwork. The HVAC duct had several leaks, which equates to heat loss. The system had to run more to compensate for the loss. He cleaned the washable filter and did a duct cleaning for good measure. He also told me to ensure that the house was well insulated during winter to avoid heat loss.

A rat in the ductwork

It would force the rodent out and seal any openings the rat used.

I was away from home for three days on business. I still had four more days before we wrapped things up. After the fourth day, my wife called me with panic in her voice. When I asked her what was wrong, she told me that she had heard some strange noises in the house at night and she suspected that the noise was coming from the HVAC duct. Our house has a gas furnace and with that comes ductwork to ensure that the whole home heating system caterers for every space. Our home also has a gas fireplace which we rarely use. When I confirmed her fears that it was probably a rat, I could tell her panic went a notch higher. My wife grew up in a place where finding bear paw prints on your drive was a common occurrence. That woman could even face any big animal you can think of, but a rat is where she drew the line. I found it hilarious that she was terrified of rodents. I asked her to call the heating provider so that an HVAC repairman could conduct duct cleaning. It would force the rodent out and seal any openings the rat used. I made the call to the heating corp myself since we also needed furnace/heater tune-up, and the serviceman could wash the washable filter while he was at it. We always kept the boiler installation running efficiently with regular maintenance as an energy-saving help mechanism that we had learned over the years through home services professionals. That night, when I called my wife, she was happy to inform me that the rat must have fled because the noise had disappeared.

Not every HVAC filter is a washable filter

Moving out of your parents’ house comes with a lot the freedom.

It also comes with many responsibilities, which, to be honest, is not a fair trade.

Even the price of curtains will make you want to run back to your parents’ house and beg them to take you back, but it is a step in life we all need to take to grow, mature and build a life for ourselves. It was not until the second job that I moved out of my parents’ house. The house was more of a guest house that a homeowner was renting out. The house had a gas furnace for whole-home heating and a gas fireplace. The boiler installation only served that guest house since it was an ad and was not part of the original home. One of the terms was ensuring that I contacted the home services company twice or at least once a year for furnace/heater tune-up. The house was more of a studio with a front porch. I remember the first mistake I made was assuming that the filter was a washable filter like the ones we used at my parents’ house. It was my lucky day since the homeowner had called the heating corp to fix some issues with the ductwork in his home. He had also asked the HVAC repairman to conduct duct cleaning in my house as part of the ‘welcome package. When he finished with the HVAC duct, he came to my home only to find me in my attempt of cleaning. He informed me that that type of filter needed replacing. The heating provider also gave me a few energy-saving help tips to keep my energy bills low.
