I knew I should have invested in HVAC zone control long ago.

Back then, it was recommended, but it seemed a little too expensive for my taste.

Instead, I ended up investing in a few portable heaters. It was mainly the kids who were feeling cold in their rooms, yet they still wanted different temperature control settings than the central heating system. So my spoiled children each got their own heating unit. This actually worked fine for a little while. The problem is that those heating devices did not last. If I had only invested in HVAC zone control, everybody would be happy and there would be no issues. But no, we were right back to the kids saying how they were freezing in their rooms without nearly enough heating. Personally, I thought every single one of their rooms were comfortable. Of course, that’s because I am adjusted myself to being fine with the temperature control set at 68 degrees. Admittedly sometimes when I’m chilly in my room, I will turn on the electric fireplace that my wife bought for me, but usually I’m fine. So, I did consider getting new portable heaters for the children again, but I thought what was the point? They were just going to quit working again as the previous ones didn’t last. I could invest in more expensive ones, but I figured I should do the right thing and go for HVAC zone control. When I finally had my HVAC system upgraded, everybody was so happy and cozy! That HVAC zone control certainly solves a lot of problems.

What a miserable day it had been.

I went to bed late because I was out celebrating with my wife for her birthday.

Then the next day, super early in the morning, my wife told me there was a loud noise coming from the basement. I could actually hear the noise as soon as I woke up and it was pretty loud. I was worried that there might be a complication with the heating system, but fortunately that was not the case. The thing that was struggling and making all the loud noise was actually the sump pump. It turned out that the discharge hose that was outside of the house had frozen. The previous night, the temperatures dropped somewhere around negative 15 degrees fahrenheit and somewhere in that line there was frozen water. I tried digging up the line and seeing if I could get the ice to break, but I was unable to get to the clog. The actual clog was somewhere between the wall and where the pipe came back up outside and I couldn’t get to it. I tried pouring boiling hot water into the line which I thought would melt the ice, but it didn’t work. I even tried pouring alcohol in there, but that didn’t work either. At the end of the day, I ended up giving up. I am not sure what to do, I just was sick of being outside in the frigid temps while I wanted to get to my work in my office with the ideal temperature control settings. I ended up using a different discharge hose and sending the water out of a window, for the time being.

There was mostly nothing great about the place where we lived growing up. It was a low income housing situation as my parents didn’t make a whole lot of money. Fortunately, the handyman was really great in our building. Whenever we had any issues with the heating or cooling system, he would come out right away. He didn’t even mind helping us with simple things like changing the air filters to the HVAC system. He taught everybody a lot about essential things like that, and regular HVAC maintenance and tune-ups. We learned about how to keep the sink drains unclogged and everything. It actually made me want to be a handyman myself. It was strange to me though because the handyman I thought would have made a perfect HVAC professional since he was mostly doing that type of work. He probably should have been making more money too because most HVAC experts make good money. We all were thankful to the man, especially in the winter season when that radiant heating was working its magic. I loved relaxing next to the radiators in my room and I could just relax there for hours just working on my homework. Eventually, I actually did take an interest in the HVAC industry when we had an HVAC expert come out to speak about his career. I asked him a few questions and mentioned that we had a handyman who regularly took care of our HVAC, not an HVAC professional. The guy laughed and said it’s always best to go with the experts because they are certified and completely know what they’re doing.

Our grandmother was the most amazing woman alive back in the day.

• I was always so anxious to go visit her and see other family members who I hadn’t seen in ages.

She was always something special though, she lived to make others happy. Even when we were young and never wanted to do things we considered corny, she would still push us on. We would go to parades, hot air balloon launches, and we had fun at my grandma’s house too. She had irrigation water for her garden and it would flood the whole backyard area. It was actually fun to get your swimming suit on and just relax in an inner tube and play in the water, we used to do that all the time. Then it would be nice and comfortable going back in the house with the perfect temperature control settings. I don’t know if my grandmother just had amazing insulation or what, but it was always so comfortable in her home no matter what time of year it happened to be. She also said her energy bills were not especially costly, so I figured she had an energy efficient HVAC system. There were even times when I would go and crank her AC system and turn on some tunes on the stereo. She actually yelled at me a few times for a couple of reasons. She said the speakers were delicate and I might blow them if I cranked the music too loud. She also got on my case about energy use. She said I was wasting electricity by cranking the AC system and unless I was going to pay her energy bills, she didn’t want me messing with the thermostat. I was able to respect that, and I still always had fun hanging out with my grandmother.

When I had some buddies tell me they were coming into town, I panicked a little bit.

I was definitely happy that I was going to be hanging out with my friends who I haven’t spent time with in forever, but I was concerned because I knew there were issues with my HVAC system.

I had poor air quality in my house and the HVAC system was always making funny sounds. So I ended up reaching out to the HVAC company to see what they could do for me. I had been meaning to call the HVAC company about my issues with the system even before my buddies called me up, but now it was necessary or I was going to be embarrassed and everybody would end up feeling miserable at my house. I was so happy when the HVAC professional was able to get everything working again. He gave me a warning though. He was telling me that I better keep up with my regular HVAC maintenance and air filters, or I was going to experience trouble with my HVAC system again in the future. He said that I could always enroll into an HVAC service plan. He let me know what to expect and how most of my HVAC maintenance would be covered. He said I would also get as many as 4 repairs per year with the service plan, and that sounded wonderful to me. When my buddies finally showed up to my place, they would have never known that I was experiencing HVAC issues. The house was perfectly comfortable with the ideal temperature control settings, and I just want to live like this forever.
