They told me I wouldn’t mind the heat once we got out on the boat.

I may have agreed with them if we were moving all the time.

Unfortunately, most of our time on the boat was sitting still while people were fishing or scuba diving. I couldn’t swim, and fishing was no fun for me. I spent most of my time trying to find shade and reading my book. My fondest wish was that they had air conditioning on the boat. I would have settled for a good fan, but air conditioning would have been much better. My brother told me to try to have a little fun, but it was almost 100 degrees on the lake. He offered to get me a large tube so I could have fun in the water, but I was terrified of drowning. It was his fault I couldn’t swim. Every time I was in the pool, he wanted to play sink the whale, and I was the whale. Although I was four years younger, he didn’t care. I was the only other person in the pool with him. I didn’t even want to go in a kiddie pool if he was anywhere around. When we went back to shore for lunch, I decided to stay back at the cabin. There was air conditioning inside, and I could relax, curl up on the sofa, and watch television or read. I was finally enjoying my time at the shore, now that I was left alone with my air conditioning. My brother headed back out after lunch with my husband and our kids.

My husband was doing really well in his job, and now everyone wants to know why he suddenly became an HVAC technician.

I tell them he became an HVAC tech on a whim, but that isn’t the truth.

He was into plumbing for years, and he realized how closely related HVAC and plumbing was. He wanted to extend his services, and with HVAC, he could offer clients radiant heated flooring. He had a lot of people inquiring about radiant heat when he got his HVAC certification, but I feel that fad has gone away. People were finding out that every surface touching the flooring was heated, and it was uncomfortable for most people. He’With the big move toward ductless HVAC which doesn’t require you to use fossil fuel, he is once again using his expertise. Now, he is considering getting his certification to be an electrician. He’ll have the knowledge of the use of conduit and wiring, and still be able to tell people how to work the HVAC system. Since most jobs work with plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems, his plumbing business will be a full-service company. My only concern is that I’m his bookkeeper and scheduler. I hope he has people working for him who are just plumbers, electricians, or HVAC techs. I would hate to send someone out to work on an HVAC system that doesn’t have any knowledge of them. I told him this and he laughed. He told me that within a year, he was going to have everyone who worked for him cross trained and able to do every job.

It sucks when I need to sit in my own house, and freeze, yet not be able to do anything about it. I’m not a cold weather person, and needing to sit in a house that is 65 degrees is not fun. I only do it because my wife can’t stand the heat. She is nine months pregnant, and whenever she gets temperatures above sixty-five, her feet swell and she is in a lot of pain. She offered to stay in the bedroom so I wouldn’t be disturbed, but I said no. I liked her company, or we wouldn’t be married. It’s the pregnancy part that I don’t like. Before she got pregnant, we spent most of our time outside. We did yard work together, and loved going to the beach. Since she got pregnant, everything has changed. She had major issues with morning sickness that lasted all day long, during the first three months. Then she was having problems with weight gain, or lack of it. Now, she is swelling up, and the doctor is afraid it will hurt her heart or the baby. I sit in the living room with a sweater on, while she relaxes with frostbite air conditioning. I hope things improve when the baby is born. I would rather have the thermostat turned high so the baby doesn’t get cold, than be freezed out by the air conditioning. I never thought I would hate the air conditioning, but it has happened. My wife tells me things will return to normal in a week or two, but I’m not so sure. There have been a lot of odd things happening since she got pregnant..

When I told dad I wanted to be an HVAC technician, he simply asked why.

I told him I had been talking to several guys I went to school with and they had become HVAC technicians.

They made it sound like it was a great job. They got great pay, had time off, and paid vacation and paid sick leave from the beginning. They even had paid personal days off, to use during the off season. My dad laughed and told me there were no off-seasons when you worked in HVAC. He asked me if I had other reasons for being an Hvac technician, other than for monetary reasons. I looked at him, not sure what he wanted me to say. He asked if I thought I would make a good HVAC technician? Not six months ago, I had wanted to be a lawyer. He said being an HVAC technician was a big step down from being a lawyer. I tried to tell him I was just throwing around careers while waiting for the right one to pop up. I loved the idea of being an HVAC technician. He asked me, if I had to give one reason for wanting to be an HVAC technician, what would it be? I thought for a couple of minutes and answered him. I told him HVAC promised job security. With global warming, air conditioning was going to become a necessity for nearly everyone. He offered to pay for me to go to school. I must have impressed him with my answer. He had never offered to pay for anything without expecting me to pay it back.

My dad was so proud when he bought his new truck.

He had done research for weeks, before deciding which truck he was going to buy. He dickered back and forth with the dealership, and went to look at the truck at least four times. I was laughing whenever he said he was going to look at his truck. The dealership didn’t know it, but they were going to give him the price he wanted, sooner or later. One day, dad called mom and asked her to come to the dealership. He was able to get his price and was buying the truck. He wanted her to sign her name as part ownership. I was wondering what he was going to do with the extra car and the old truck. Mom said he was going to use the old truck as a snowplow, and the second car he was planning for something else. It’s lucky we had a spare car. Not two months later, the air conditioning went out in the new truck. Dad was livid. He was going to work on the air conditioning, but mom told him no. She was afraid he would null the warranty. He didn’t trust the dealership to work on his truck, but he had no choice. With only a thousand miles on the truck, he had to let the repair up to them. Luckily, when he got to the dealership, he found out there was a recall on the HVAC system. Unfortunately, it was going to take a week to replace it. He could leave the truck with them, or bring it back when the new HVAC system was delivered. He brought it back home..
